Alright, need help. Putting a request out for book recommendations from #bookstodon people, as my strategic book reserves are running low. Fiction please, #Fantasy or #scifi are the usuals, but I'm an open minded fellow.
@phil Hi! Here are some great sci-if/fantasy books I read this year:
Station Eleven, by Emily St. John Mandel
Piranesi, by Susanna Clarke
The Starless Sea, by Erin Morgenstern
Once Upon a River, by Diane Setterfield
Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro
The Essex Serpent, by Sarah Perry
I hope you find a great one and post about it! 📚
Thanks! Will do.
The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter by Theodora Goss.
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
The Invisible Library novels by Genevieve Cogman
Thanks! From your list I grabbed A Darker Shade of Magic and will check it out. I appreciate the recommendations!
@phil You are so welcome. Happy reading!
Honor Raconteur's Henri Davenforth series
M C Burnell's The Spider's Daughter
Casual's Beware of Chicken
Robyn Wideman's Wandering Cultivator
Mark Hayden's King's Watch
Rachel Neumeier's Tuyo
Erik Schubach's Elfed
Just off the top of my head. I'm forgetting some and leaving out a few on purpose. :)
That's a long list and it's entirely eclipsed by "Beware of chicken" - I'll take a gander. Thanks!
I read a LOT (over 240 books this year) and none of it is in the main stream :D
I find a lot of weird and a ton of fun.
Oh, heck, I didn't recognize your name immediately - I've read a whole pile of your 'Share' books as well. Thanks for writing them!
@phil Babel by Kuang: https://www.harpercollins.com/products/babel-r-f-kuang
Thanks! 👍👍
@phil A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown.
@phil I read books 1 and 2 of The Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers. I thought they were really good. I intend to finish the series. If "The Expanse" had a book child with "The House in the Cerulean Sea" you get "The Wayfarers.
@joshbuddy agreed! Already read them, I'm afraid, but thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Haven't read The House in the Cerulean Sea though - I'll check it out.
Next time you're looking for a lighter fantasy read, check out Shadow of a Dead God by @patricksamphire, think you'll enjoy it.
@phil Try Greg Egan’s stuff if you haven’t: Diaspora, Permutation City. Remembrance of Earth’s Past. Wool trilogy.
First 4-5 things I get recommended, I'll buy and read, no questions asked (If don't have them already.)
